How to Play Catan
- Players collect brick, lumber, wool, grain, and ore from the hex map, trade, and spend resources to build roads, settlements, and cities.
- Each settlement is worth 1 victory point, each city 2 victory points. Development cards may also award victory points.
- The longest continuous road of at least five segments earns 2 VP for its owner; the most knights played (at least three) earns 2 VP for largest army.
- The first player to reach 10 victory points on their turn wins the game.
Tips & Strategy for playing Catan
- Enter only VP you gained in that score update — never your current VP total. The Total column tracks your running score automatically.
- If nothing changed a player’s VP, leave their cells blank — do not enter 0. Only record a column group when someone’s VP actually changes.
- Update the bonus columns in the same score update when the road or knight count changes hands so your running total matches the in-game VP chips.
- Add VP development cards when you choose to count them on the shared scorecard.
Frequently asked questions about Catan
Should I enter VP gained or my total score?
Only enter new victory points gained in that score update — not your running total. Count settlements (+1 each), city upgrades (+1 more on that spot), and VP development cards (+1 each). Leave your cells blank if nothing changed for you.
How do I record longest road and largest army?
Longest road and largest army are each worth 2 VP while you hold the title. When you take a bonus from someone else, enter +2 for yourself and −2 for them in that score update; when nothing changes, leave those selects empty (they count as 0).
What counts as one score update on the scorecard?
Each numbered column group is one scoring event — not a shared table turn. Only fill a player’s cells when their VP changes; leave them blank otherwise. Players may skip groups where they gained nothing, so columns can look out of sync — that’s normal. The VP gained field records that event’s increase only; bonus columns are optional and default to no change.
How does the scorecard know someone won?
The scorecard flags the first player whose running total reaches 10 victory points, matching the standard base-game finish line.
How does this Catan scorecard work?
Enter scores in the rows for each hand, hole, or round — the scorecard updates running totals and highlights the leader automatically. You can add players, rename them, and keep the sheet open for the whole session.
Can I use ScorecardGO to score Catan on mobile?
Yes. ScorecardGO is built for phones and tablets: large tap targets, readable tables, and layouts that fit narrow screens so you can score Catan wherever you're playing.
Does this Catan scorecard work offline?
Yes. Your scorecard works offline when the page is loaded, and changes sync when you are back online so you do not lose progress mid-game.
Is this Catan scorecard free?
