A Yahtzee is five matching dice. In the lower section Yahtzee category, that scores 50 points the first time you use the box.
First Yahtzee: 50 points
When all five dice show the same number, you may score 50 in the Yahtzee row (if it is still empty). If the Yahtzee row is already filled, you must use another lower-section category—often Chance or the matching upper-section row under official rules.
Bonus Yahtzees (common house rule)
Many casual and tournament home games add a Yahtzee bonus:
- After your first Yahtzee is scored in the Yahtzee box, each additional Yahtzee in the same game earns 100 bonus points
- You still must score each turn in a valid category; the bonus is added separately on the bonus line
Official Hasbro score pads include a Yahtzee bonus checkbox area for this reason.
Example
- Roll five 3s → score 50 in Yahtzee
- Later roll five 3s again → score in another category (e.g. threes or Chance) plus add 100 bonus points if your group uses that rule
Joker rules (optional)
Some groups use joker rules when the Yahtzee box is full: a second Yahtzee must be scored in the upper section matching the dice, or in a lower full-house/straight row if that upper row is already used. Confirm with your table before playing.
The ScorecardGO Yahtzee scorecard supports the 50-point Yahtzee row and bonus Yahtzee tracking used in most home games.
